Located along Dionysiou Areopagitou, the most characteristic pedestrian street in Athens, theAthensWas Hotel lies opposite the Acropolis and New Acropolis Museum, a stone’s throw from the Temple of Olympian Zeus near Syntagma Square.
AthensWas is a Design Hotel™: designed by the Greek studio Stage Design Office, in line with the principles of classic modernism, the Renaissance architectural style of Athens. It features clean lines and natural materials, especially Greek marble from different areas of the country and fine local walnut timber.

FILA oversaw the cleaning and protection operations of the fine black granite surfaces, Greek green marble and white Pentelic marble – the same as the Parthenon and Acropolis – and polished ceramic installed in the indoor and outdoor areas, including the front desk, panoramic terrace, lounge bar, communal areas, bedrooms and bathrooms.

The polished marble surfaces, which are sensitive to strong detergents, were cleaned with CLEANER PRO, the high-performing concentrated neutral detergent – ideal for the initial wash of the most delicate natural stone.
The areas with non-glossy stone, such as black granite, were washed with the de-greasing, wax-removing detergent PS87 PRO – ideal for cleaning stone with a natural or matt finish.
The black granite within the lounge bar was treated with the solvent-based colour-enhancing stain protector STONE PLUS, which protects and enhances the original colour of the polished natural stone, giving it a warm finish. STONE PLUS penetrates deep into the surface, protecting it against watery or oily stains and dirt. It does not yellow, it’s UV-resistant and offers long-lasting protection. Certified food-safe, it is ideal for worktops, windowsills and ornaments.
The honed ceramic surfaces in the bathrooms were first cleaned after the installation with DETERDEK PRO, the descaling acid detergent, and they were protected against stains with the solvent-based stain protector MP90. MP90 is ideal for protecting bathroom and kitchen worktops as it is food-safe and provides the best defence against stains for marble, natural stone and ceramic with a polished finish, as it does not form a surface film or alter the surfaces’ natural colour.
