Fila Surface Care Solutions has been selected for an extensive cleaning project at London’s Baker Street Tube station. The project, carried out by Cleshar, included deep cleaning of the subway station’s walls and floors. Fila treatments used FILAPS87 Heavy Duty Cleaner and FILACLEANER Concentrated All Surface Cleaner. Opened in 1863 as part of the world’s first underground passenger train service, the Baker Street subway station is a Grade II listed building situated in Marylebone, central London. The station was extended in sections during the 19th century and the sub-surface layout was substantially complete by 1930. A significant amount of refurbishment work took place in 1911 and, most recently, during the 1960s and 1980s. Baker Street has ten platforms, served by five different lines, and used by approximately 1.3 billion passengers every year. Prior to the beginning of the cleaning project by Cleshar, Fila provided on-site technical assistance, including surface patch testing. FILAPS87 was then applied to deep clean the station’s terrazzo floor tile and platform edging in ceramic tile, and FILACLEANER was used for ceramic wall tile areas throughout the station. Both treatments provide a safe application, without altering aesthetics, and can be applied diluted or undiluted to tackle a range of surface issues. At Baker Street, the Fila combination restored both the original appearance and non-slip ratings of the various floor surfaces.
