Situated in the heart of Barcelona, the Ohla is a 5-star hotel also known as “the hotel with a thousand eyes”. The name refers to the one thousand ceramic “eyes” distributed along the main façade, a project designed by Frederic Amat and crafted by master ceramic artist Antoni Cumella.
On the ground floor, the hotel hosts a charming, exclusive restaurant, while the 8th floor you can find one of the best solarium terraces in the city – a recreation and eating area enriched with a 13-meter pool enclosed by glass walls.
FILA’s project involved the restauration and subsequent consolidating protection of all the interior and exterior flooring and wall coverings in black Calatorao marble. The treatment was carried out in two phases, both in the interior spaces of the hotel (restaurant, bar, café, corridors, and reception) and the solarium terrace.
During the first phase, surfaces were deep cleaned with a professional degreaser, PS87 PRO, ideal cleaner for materials such as natural or engineered stone. The product removes layers of organic dirt, hence renewing the flooring exposed to high pedestrian traffic and older floor surfaces in the hotel.
After waiting the correct drying time, the second phase of FILA’s surface care project was initiated. STONEPLUS penetrating sealer was applied, protecting surfaces from weathering and organic stains while simultaneously enhancing the colour of the material.
The product was left to act for 10 to 12 minutes to allow full impregnation into the material. Subsequently, all sealer residue was removed from the surface to respect the natural texture of the stone.
